CANCELED: Your Computer: Best Friend or Worst Enemy?

Cyber Security in the Modern Era

April 12, 2017 | 1pm to 2pm | Twin Oaks Branch Austin Public Library

Join one of Austin’s top UI Developers for a talk on cyber security. This talk will cover basic techniques to be safer, more secure, and have greater privacy online. We’ll talk about decision-making strategies, software tools, and some of the threats. Guests can expect to leave with a checklist for tuning up their computers, and knowledge they can use to keep up with the ever-changing security landscape.

Andy Stalick first got curious about computer networks in the mid 80s, and has spent the rest of his life looking at the insides of things to see how they work. Today he spends his days making the web faster and easier-to-use.

Having the Hard Conversations

How to Talk About Politics with People Close to You

Jan 31, 2017 | 7pm to 8pm | Impact Hub Austin
Having difficult conversations about personal values and politics can be challenging but sometimes necessary. We will be choosing a few scenarios for roleplaying where participants can practice conversation skills in contentious situations. You’ll learn how to tactfully express your views in the face of opposing ones. You’ll leave feeling equipped with the tools to have a robust conversation without spiraling into a yelling match. Have you been in a situation or had a conversation that could have gone better? We may use it as an anonymous example to learn from. Submit us your stories: info@atxcan.org.
